If he would make tv everybody likes and he would quit making cynical remarks. He doesn't. Then i would not consider him a sell-out.

Gee, nothing on TV, flipped on AB the Blow Toad, once again downing wine and booze, "Why the French don't Suck", eating some lunch, waxing poetic, full of butter and cream, enough food for two, he loves it. Gee I love eating a stick of butter. What is this guy's talentless talent? Ah, cigarettes, booze, pricey food that taste so well because of the butter, cream and am I sure Extra Virgin Olive oil. He needs to grow up.

Can't fault him, a below middle of the road chef from what I can tell and laughing all the way to the bank.

He seems quick on the tongue to voice his options against the other TV chefs, guess he is the only one worth watching.

Problem? Watching AB is like watching Flo from those Progressive ads.

I don't know if he is a sell out, he probably is since he is definetely a fuckin' hypocrite. I just saw an item tv about his comments on Paula Deen. Like Anthony's smoking and drinking are healthy. I'm not a Deen fan nor a Bourdain fan but it is just plain ridiculous to call Paula Deen "most dangerous". After all you have (1) a choice to watch her show and (2) a choice to recreate her recipes. I would reserve the term for the religious nutcases that the word is full off. i also would expect remarks like this from teenager going through puberty. Anthony doesn't seem to have done a lot of growing up. Today he went from a person that I somewhat admired to somebody I despise. Sad . Hope he comes around !

I have been following Anthony's shows ever since I accidentally stumbled on a No Reservations show in Russia (where he plans a revenge on his friend).
I think it is ultimately his personality that makes it work - unabashed, unchanged, but a great respect for local cultures.
I then picked up his book "Nasty Bits" from the library. Did not go beyond two chapters (was too disorganized, had no singular story to tell). Yet, something still told me that Kitchen Confidential would be good. I read that, almost in one shot, and have my own copy of it.
On the subject of "has he sold out", well if that is the way you get to see more of him, I am glad he did!

Last weeks, LayOver Miami, was a clear example of a man-boy who refuses to mature and find his adult voice. He was a douche (by his own admission) from beginning to end. As a result, they couldn’t use any of the first nights shooting. So bad they couldn’t use it. Blank, nada for 12-15 hours. Grow up, anthonY! Please.

Somehow, Anthony still thinks has to compete with 20-30 somethings for being the biggest asshat on the block.

He has shown glimpses of his beginning to mature and loose the snarkiness that was kinda hip and cool 15-20 years ago. But then he goes off, and keeps trying to be that guy 15 years ago. It just doesn’t look so good on a guy in his 50′s.

Oh, unless what he really wants to do is keep pushing street food. Where we can find out all the places that serve tubuliar meat after 1am when we’re piss drunk. How cool is that? Just what I want to know.

And this is a guy that gave me THE BEST and most memorable road cooking show Ive seen with his Bayou Cajun Pork cookout show.

What are you going to do Anthony?

Ex soldier, world traveler, musician and generally cynical, I've found a kindred spirit in Tony. I'm listening to Medium Raw as we speak. A more honest, self deprecating journal you'll never read. Cooking skill as with skill in any art is only part of the package. Don't tell me that Madonna can sing. She's a fucking gazillionaire. Is she a sellout? No one questions the release of one of her efforts. In Tony's case, while I'm sure the twisted bastard can cook rings around 99.9% of us mere humans, it's his honest appraisal of an industry that is part of all of our lives that is his most amazing attribute. Bravo. This man, if he ever drags his skinny ass to Kelowna, is welcome at my table anytime.

Olys,
Most chefs, the mediocre ones like Bourdain, the French trained ones that think their profession is special, are all the same, got one in the family. Drug use, Mexican staff the backbone of the restrautants business? You betcha. That is nothing new most people who work around the business know and anyone who pays attention when they eat out. If there isn't a subway system, check the back of the place, see those bicycles? Guess who ride those to work? If you saw the prep work, the pre-assembled salads sitting around, my guess is you would eat home alot more. Guess I should have written a book.
Problem, I find it all rather sad and depressing. So, a sell out? A sellout from what? Seemed to be a natural move, just like Jerry Springer, Howard Stern, I lump them all together.

Sell out? Don't you have to have start with a soul in order to lose it? He's an asshole, people. He both plays one on tv and is one in person. I can't wait until people have no idea who he ever was or why anyone bothered listening to his overplayed, repetitive drivel.
